Britvic: Support with FLAG emissions, improving accuracy and preparing for target-setting
The Challenge
Britvic, a leading beverage company, sought Sillion’s expertise to establish FLAG (Forest, Land, and Agriculture) emissions calculations as a result of new Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) guidance. They needed comprehensive support with their target update, particularly under the complex FLAG guidance, to align their emissions tracking with broader decarbonisation and no-deforestation goals.
Our Approach
We began by gathering and analysing Britvic’s available data to calculate FLAG emissions related to purchased goods and services, using customised emissions factors to enhance accuracy. With updated data, we guided Britvic through the intricacies of the FLAG guidance and the draft Land Sector and Removals Guidance. Based on these insights, Sillion provided strategic recommendations to improve data quality and align FLAG and non-FLAG emissions reductions with Britvic’s decarbonisation targets.
Outcomes
Britvic’s team gained the confidence and capability to calculate and submit their FLAG target to the SBTi, with a methodology report and recommended actions equipping them to manage FLAG emissions calculations going forward. Our framework enabled Britvic to adopt a focused approach to reducing Scope 3 emissions.
Furthermore, we supported them in establishing a no-deforestation target with the SBTi and offered guidance to help mitigate deforestation risks and proactively meet upcoming regulatory requirements. This comprehensive support positioned Britvic to lead on sustainable sourcing while strengthening their resilience against climate-related risks.
