IFRS and GRI: Harmonised sustainability reporting standards

The challenge

IFRS (ISSB), and GRI needed support to define, position, and communicate interoperability between their standards to address market confusion amongst stakeholders and harmonise the reporting landscape.

Our approach

Working closely with both parties, we mapped out the key stakeholder groups and their roles within the reporting landscape, identifying critical pain points that could hinder progress. Through a series of alignment workshops led by us, we consolidated their ambitions and defined the parameters for seamless interoperability, ensuring a shared understanding of how to approach the challenges ahead.

Managing the project from strategy to execution, we developed a comprehensive communications plan, crafting supporting materials to engage a diverse set of stakeholders. This approach ensured clarity and alignment across all audiences, ultimately driving the initiative forward and enabling both parties to effectively collaborate within the reporting landscape.

Outcomes

  • Establishing an aligned position, codified into a narrative that consolidated  strategies and initiatives and guided all subsequent communication.

  • Full matrix of targeted messaging to address confusions in the reporting landscape, while clarifying the significance of each set of standards and their interoperable application with the aim of reducing disclosure burden.
