Hummingbird Resources: Advanced sustainability reporting by creating their first standalone sustainability report

The challenge

Hummingbird Resources is a UK-listed gold mining company operating in Mali, Guinea and Liberia.

Looking to level up the depth of their sustainability understanding and disclosures to match their strategic ambitions, we worked with Hummingbird to take them from early stages to provide robust foundations for their reporting.

Our approach

Sillion undertook a GRI / SASB aligned materiality assessment, producing a matrix to guide Hummingbird on understanding its impacts as a mining company operating in Africa. Our GHG reporting team conducted Scope 1+2 and limited Scope 3 assessment working with their data. And we produced their first standalone sustainability report communicating their work, impacts and goals for their audiences, with reference to leading frameworks and approaches.

Outcomes

  • A best-practice sustainability report delivering Hummingbird’s sustainability position and impacts.

  • A materiality assessment that provided a solid foundation for future reporting, enabling the company to better understand and manage its most critical impacts.

  • In addition, the GHG emissions analysis created the framework for year-on-year tracking, setting the stage for continuous improvement in environmental performance.
